Mixed Media - Mixed Media On Paper
Description
An artifact from my “Archive of Ancient Art”, also known as The Collection of the Artist. Boxes full of my creations that were not good enough to keep, but too good to throw away. Perhaps “Limbo Pile” would be a good file name !
A mix of pastels, watercolor, and crayon. Created in the early 1970’s when I decided that Collage making was my preferred medium.

This would make a dynamite puzzle. A gorgoeus work Douglas.
Douglas Fromm replied:
Thank you !...I put many jigsaw puzzles together when I was growing up. I did not consciously think about puzzles when I was creating this work years later, but it seems like it must have been a sub-conscious influence ....

Douglas! Thrilling to see your work from the Limbo Pile! Don't ever throw anything away! Keep sharing because it's beautiful and relevant and it is such an interesting insight into your process and development. It's the pieces you feel the least attachment to that other people love. In other words, the more awful you think it might be, the more likely you will find a fan! You are amazing! We want to see every single thing you ever created!!!

What a wonderful “WOW” comment !.....I had never even considered such a concept before , but now that you mention it I realize it’s significance. I used to teach free collage classes to children at non profit art associations. I I would give each one a pair of scissors, Elmer’s glue, and a stack of magazines, and then turn them loose ! I emphasized that all they had to do was add imagination. Some of the works that they were unhappy with and tried to throw away were my favorites, I learned things from their spontaneous “flow of consciousness “ approach that I had never thought of ! Perhaps I will take your advice and post some more ancient relics from the Limbo Pile....

So simple.....and yet, NO! This touches my creative inner eye in a quiet and sneaky way. So much detail hidden in plain site....and yet at a quick glance it is two interlocking shapes on a patterned background. This is wonderfully deep. Push this concept....create a series based on this if you can. NICE WORK!!!
