Nancy Nine Eyes
Artist
Douglas Fromm
Medium
Mixed Media - Collage On Postcard
Description
I created this piece as my entry in the 2021 Small Format Show of the National Collage Society, which was formerly known as the Postcard Show. All entries are an identical 4 x 6 inches, which is the size of a standard postcard.
This is the second version of my work entitled Six Eyed Lady Bizarro. I added a solitary eye at the top of the forehead. The pair of eyes at the bottom of the face belong to a baby’s face which was added to cover the rather nondescript lips and nostrils of the original face..

I am always drawn to this number...as I am number 9 :) so here is a quote to go with your captivating and superbly creative work, Douglas :) The number 9 is revered in Hinduism and considered a complete, perfected and divine number because it represents the end of a cycle in the decimal system, which originated from the Indian subcontinent as early as 3000 BC. ... Nine is a significant number in Norse Mythology. f.l.
Douglas Fromm replied:
This is such a fascinating revelation !....I will have to read more about the significance of the number nine. I have always been attracted to the Indian spiritual concept of the “Third Eye “ , and occasionally incorporate it into my work, though strictly as a visual element. That is how this work came to be named.I had added 3 pairs of eyes to the original eyes, and the elongated forehead seemed to need a ninth and final eye. It made a better fit visually to be at the hairline rather than centered in the forehead...

I think this my favorite of your pieces here. Eye-catching!
Douglas Fromm replied:
Thank you for your favorable compliment....your “Eye-catching” comment made me think about why I have focused on eyes throughout my career. Images of Eyes catch the vision of viewer’s eyes, it seems to be human nature to notice each other’s eyes...

Oh wow! Love this work Douglas. Fabulous process.
Douglas Fromm replied:
Thank you, Bunny !....I tried to keep from overworking this piece, and it seems to have been successful. 9 eyes are better than 19 ?
