Description
This work started in 1971 with an unsigned canvas that an unknown psychedelic artist had painted of a woman sitting on top of a mushroom growing in a clump of grass. My wife bought it at a yard sale for one dollar, and gave it to me. At that time I could not afford new canvases, so I recycled used ones from thrift stores and yard sales by whitewashing them with thick coats of gesso. This one was too interesting to cover up, so I “collaborated with an unknown artist “ and starting gluing Alice in WonderLand images and “RoadKill” objects found on the streets of San Francisco. It was finished in the late 1970’s.
Three decades later in 2009 I entered a call for entries for the National Collage Show, and was somewhat amazed when the jury selected it for exhibition ! It was further honored with a Merit Award issued by a curator from Atlanta's High Museum. It also became my first major sale.

A real mélange of surreal images that appeal to older psychedelics. Well done Douglas. Mike
