Description
A friend sent me some unused IBM punched cards from the 1960’s. I used 4 of them as a background for a 1990’s 3.5 inch floppy disk.
I suppose that these might be considered technological artifacts to people born in the 21st century. When I was a college freshman in 1964 this type of card was used for student registration . In the 1990’s I used this floppy disk for an employment resume. Now they are obsolete objects destined for historical reference.

Oh, look, a 3D version of the SAVE icon on some punch cards. A number of years ago I helped my mother clear out a small room (labeled data storage closet) which was packed FULL of bankers boxes CRAMMED with punch cards.....and each box represented the basic identifying information for ONE person. My mom had helped to enter the data on those punch cards. It is hard to wrap our heads around how quickly our world has changed. This image is both nice to look at and mentally intriguing. I could easily see this hanging in a tech company's waiting area. Nice job!

I love this! I made a Christmas wreath from IBM cards when I was a child that my Mom still puts up today...she had to repair it a couple of times but it has held together since the 60's!! What you did here is so creative and so cool!

Douglas, love your latest assemblage, as it really shows us the reality between older technologies that lasted generations and in today's era , can be measured in months. Mike
Douglas Fromm replied:
Thanks, Mike.....both for your insightful compliment and for supplying the punched cards that inspired this nostalgic piece !
