Artist's Description
A friend in Ontario sent me a set of greeting cards with reproductions of the iconic Japanese master Katsushika Hokusai, whose best known work is The Great Wave. He also did a classic series of woodblock prints called Thirty Six Views of Mount Fuji. I used this image from that series as a base for this collage, and added a cutout of Mona Lisa and two logos of our Earth from an advertisement for a travel agency. Thus this work includes images from three centuries, the 16th, 19th, and 21st.
I sent the completed work to my friend in Ontario.

I love this composition Douglas. Mona in Japan. Who'd have thought it? :o)
Douglas Fromm replied:
Thanks, as always, Bunny….I did not intentionally start out to have Mona visit Japan, I was just looking through my piles of images trying to find something to fit on the Hokusai card, and as soon as I came across Mona I knew that she was the one !
Donna Brown
Mona with tree antenna. Wandering what station she watching. Awesome Doug. Fav
Douglas Fromm replied:
It does look like antennas….thanks for an intriguing comment… perhaps she was watching a show about Art on the History Channel ?

I am guilty of getting behind on the FAA announcements. This is a fun postcard! Mona looks happy to be in Japan. Cheers!
Douglas Fromm replied:
I always appreciate your interesting comments….it was Fun to play with a visual Time Machine and send Mona several centuries into the Future !

Douglas, we can always count on you to create artwork that is equal parts imaginative and humorous. This centuries-spanning collage is wonderfully balanced and appealing. It's the CONSPICUOUS COLLAGE of the week and it takes 2nd place in the recent Collage group logo contest! Congratulations! Fav/tweet!
Douglas Fromm replied:
Thank you, Rahdne…I always appreciate your insightful comments ! The “wonderful “ balance was the third and last cutout that I attached. The lower globe image was glued over a fishing boat that I am certain that Hokusai had placed there to balance his composition. It annoyed me for some inexplicable reason so I made it disappear…
