Artist's Description
I bought this 3 by 5 foot canvas on sale years ago with the intention of creating a collaged “Tower of Babel Babble “.. I glued 3 paper Halloween skull masks from a dollar store on it, and then it faded into oblivion for over 10 years. Recently I rescued it from a closet and restarted. The original concept mutated as work progressed, as my wandering mind kept changing directions.... which is quite often the case in my warped corner of the world !
The title refers to a fictional place that represents a state of mind more than an actual locale. It is a tribute to one of my favorite FineArtAmerica artists, James Higgins. He is an excellent draftsman that creates innovative work in an intriguing variety of styles in several genres. We share an affinity for eyes and eyeballs !

Love that dollar store stuff, here the general rate is now $1.95. They're called dollar plus stores. :) Great one!
Douglas Fromm replied:
Sounds suspiciously like Inflation - have to pay twice as much for the same item...guess that Plus is code for Double !

Hey Douglas! Great to see this creation fully realized! I thought your brightly painted background had a fresh feel in the preview sections you’ve been posting, but in this finished piece it looks very toxic...in a good way. The eyes, yes. I am of course humbly honored by the tribute you mentioned and particularly happy that it is not a memorial tribute. : ) Oh, I see you left the spiders in...I guess that’s okay. : ) Cheers!
Douglas Fromm replied:
Thanks, James, I am glad that you enjoyed it !...I almost gave up on making all of the various visual elements fit together, but kept plugging away because of the favorable comments I received from you and others on the earlier previews. The problem was finally solved when I painted over most of the ugly fragmented background with a solid coat of Turquoise acrylic. The spiders and worms were printed on the Halloween skulls, and although they weren’t especially attractive it would have been virtually impossible to collage over them... My first choices were HigginsVille or HigginsTown, but those are actual places in Missouri and Ireland. So I gave in to Political Correctness, people seem to get bent out of shape by almost anything these days !
