A gorgeous and creative work that draws one in to study the wonderful details closer.
Douglas Fromm replied:
Thanks Bunny...this one was fun to work on, but then I didn’t really want it hanging in my house. So I was happy when someone bought it, and surprisingly enough it is hanging in their kitchen !

Engaging piece! The face is emerging out of the background as if it will talk to you. Mike
Douglas Fromm replied:
Thanks, Mike......he is probably wondering why he is now living in a friend ‘s kitchen instead of being with his fellow creations in my studio...

This is an eerie-effective portrait. As for all your work, I keep wanting that in-person, up-close view to identify and marvel over all the bits that went into it. LF
Douglas Fromm replied:
Eerie-Effective ~!.....what a unique observation!~.....I changed the title just for this contest - it is actually called Portrait of Art Brutus, as I'm a big fan of Art Brut.....

Fantastic gallery, Thank you for stopping by mine! I read your profile. I use to paint many album covers when I was beginning in the late 70s. :) That is how I got started my friends would ask me to paint their favorite album covers. I use to paint Rush, Steve miller, Kiss, Especially Grateful Dead's covers. And mashy more. :) Maybe you were the original artist ??? Mayhem
Douglas Fromm replied:
I was more of wannabe cover artist than a real one. I mostly did designs for imaginary groups that I made up, or I would take a known group like Blue Oyster Cult and design something entirely different than the actual ones. I did design several covers for actual garage bands that claimed they had record contracts, but never seemed to materialize. The best one was for a weird group called Alice in Blunderland that disbanded just when I finished it, all I collected was a case of Lucky Lager for a down payment! I was totally taken by surprise when it was accepted for the 2009 National Collage Show and I sold it for 600 bucks. I'm driving to Philadelphia this week for this year's National Show to ask the jury members from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art why they picked my tired old psychedelic piece called Bad Craziness (1972)... It's ironic that after 45 years of bad-mouthing the "Establishment" for ignoring me that I have apparently been selected to join them! Now I make so-called "Art Guitars" for Southern Rock groups like the Marshall Tucker Band because one of my friends is the sax and keyboard player. The one I did recently for MTB is in my FAA portfolio as Folk Art Guitar...Alice and Bad Crazi are on FAA also. It's a great hobby and I get to hang out backstage with the band when they play around here, and Friday the 13th I'm going to see them in New Hope Pa since I'm up there for the collage show.

Doug, this is a really interesting work. it is a truly beautiful image. I would like to see the original. Looks like you used more painting in creating this piece. Alan
